Compaq Leads PC Race, Says IDC

The results are in. According to IDC surveys, Compaq handily led the pack of PC vendors in 1995.

Compaq Computer is leading the market for the most U.S. shipments of PCs this year, slightly ahead of Apple Computer and Packard Bell, according to market research firm International Data Corporation (IDC).

IDC's survey reports that Compaq shipped 2,660,000 PCs, followed by Packard Bell with 2,656,000 shipments and Apple with 2,636,000.

The report also says that major computer manufacturers including Compaq, Hewlett-Packard, and IBM sold more PCs this year because they focused on commercial desktops.
