CMG May Sell Lycos Shares to Public

CMG Information Services is considering selling a minority interest in its Lycos subsidiary, according to company officials.

Lycos makes a popular Internet browser that also offers point reviews of Web sites and a Hot List that judges a site's popularity by the number of other sites that link to it.

Company officials say CMG could sell the minority stake in Lycos sometime in the spring of 1996. If current trends continue, the offering could give Lycos stock a major jump-start.

CMG's own stock has been thrust upward by the investment community's Net mania wave. Yesterday's 6 3/4 gain left the stock at 67, putting CMG's year-to-date gain at a whopping 332 percent.
