Broadwing to connect Allegiance
Broadwing Communications announced Friday that it has signed a multi-year agreement to connect Allegiance Telecom's networks in eight major metropolitan markets. Terms of the deal were not disclosed. Dallas-based Allegiance mainly provides telecommunications services to businesses and operates in about 34 U.S. markets including New York City, Detroit, Los Angeles, Seattle, Chicago and San Francisco. Broadwing runs an optical network that spans more than 18,500 miles in the United States and transmits data at speeds of about 2.5 gigabits per second, more than 44,000 times faster than a standard 56 kilobits-per-second modem. The company's subsidiary, Cincinnati Bell, provides local phone service in Ohio, Kentucky and Indiana.
