London calling: the specs of the BlackBerry Z10, previously known as the London, reveal the first BlackBerry 10 phone's high-definition screen and 4G data connection.

The Z10 and the keyboard-packing X10 will be the first to show off the new BackBerry 10 software in two weeks time.

British blog TechRadar has got its hands on a slideshow of training material from BlackBerry builder Research in Motion. The slides include the specs for the Z10, named here by its L-series codename.

We originally heard of the L series as the BlackBerry London, but it seems that's just one of the cities in question. There are set to be four versions of the Z10, with the London joined by a trio of 4G phones: the Liverpool, Laguna and Lisbon.

The Z10 sports a large 4.2-inch touchscreen with 1,280x768 high-definition resolution. That's a very tasty 355 pixels per inch, which is better than the iPhone 5, but not as good as the Sony Xperia Z. Inside there's 2GB of RAM, 16GB of memory for your music, movies, apps and snaps, and an 1,800mAh battery.

It packs NFC to talk to other phones, sending files, links and other information to another NFC-equipped phones by waving them near each other. RIM has also done a deal with Visa to allow BlackBerry phones to be tapped against shop tills to pay for stuff, but it remains to be seen whether that will come here to Britain.

BlackBerry 10 and the new phones will be officially unveiled on 30 January.

What do you think of the Z10? Can it give the iPhone 5 and Samsung Galaxy S3 a run for their money? Tell me your thoughts in the comments or on our Facebook page.
