The device leaked earlier today on a forum, and now, Amazon has confirmed its existence.

Amazon has officially announced its second-generation Paperwhite after the company mistakenly released details earlier today.

Eagle-eyed spotters over at a Croatia-based forum noticed that Amazon had posted an image to its site on Tuesday promoting a new Kindle Paperwhite. That image included a picture of the device, along with a laundry list of improvements customers can expect when the device is expected to be made available later this month.

Although the image was taken down, Amazon on Tuesday announced that the device is real, and all of the details included in that leak are accurate. The new Paperwhite will come with a "new display technology" that will deliver enhanced contrast, along with an updated built-in light and faster processor. The touch sensors will also be improved to make the screen respond more effectively to finger inputs.

In addition, the device comes with support for in-line footnotes and a vocabulary tool. Like its predecessor, the device features built-in Wi-Fi and free 3G and can last for eight weeks on a single charge.

Amazon has kicked off Paperwhite preorders today and will start shipping the device on September 30. The Paperwhite costs $119.

Update 10:30 a.m. PT to include Paperwhite announcement.
