ADC seals Visionstream contract

ADC Telecommunications said Thursday that it will supply equipment to Visionstream to help the Australian company complete a telecommunications network construction project. The project involves laying 8,500 kilometers worth of optical fiber from Brisbane to Perth in Australia for telecommunications carrier Nextgen Networks. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed, but the project will continue through 2011, ADC said in a statement. The announcement comes as the telecommunications industry as a whole readjusts to lower spending by U.S. carriers. ADC reported Wednesday a pro forma loss of 7 cents a share for its fiscal fourth quarter, meeting analysts' expectations, according to First Call. Including charges and other items, the telecommunications gear maker posted a net loss of $177 million, or 22 cents a share, compared with a net income of $87 million, or 11 cents, a year ago. Sales also fell to $392 million from a record high of $1 billion last year.
