iTunes now accepts donations for Hurricane Sandy relief
Too far away to help personally? You can use Apple's iTunes to contribute to the effort in other ways.
Hurricane Sandy's damage toll is rising, and charities including the Red Cross are doing what they can to assist.
Dozens of deaths have been reported, countless homes have been destroyed or damaged, public transport is only slowly getting back into service, and financial losses are reaching into the billions of dollars.
Government agencies and private organizations are pitching in to the relief effort for those impacted by the super storm. The Internet has a role, too, with Apple's iTunes serving as a hub to accept donations from users across the United States.
When you sign in to your iTunes account and click "donate" you'll find an easy and anonymous way to contribute. As shown in the screenshot below, you can donate in increments of $5, $10, $25, $50, $100, and $200.
100 percent of the donation will go to the Red Cross relief effort, and you receive a confirmation e-mail after the transaction. Your personal details are not forwarded on to the charity.
Apple has set up similar donation campaigns in the past, including for the 2011 Fukushima nuclear disaster, earthquake and tsunami.
