Consumers looking to buy the new iPhone 5S can order one online if they're up past midnight on Friday, September 20.

Online orders for the iPhone 5S will launch on 12:01 a.m. PT starting September 20. On the same day, Apple will open its retail stores at 8:00 a.m. local time to start selling the 5S in person.

Retailers began offering the iPhone 5C for preorders starting today. Apple nixed preorders for the 5S, with one rumor pinning the blame on short supply of the more expensive new iPhone. KGI Securities analyst Ming-chi Kuo said last month that the 5S has run into production problems due to the new fingerprint sensor, according to AppleInsider.

Available in gold, silver, or space gray, the iPhone 5S will retail for $199 for the 16GB version, $299 for the 32GB model, and $399 for the 64GB flavor. Those prices are all through Verizon Wireless, Sprint, or AT&T and require the usual two-year contract.

Unlocked and contract-free editions are available via T-Mobile for $649 for the 16GB model, $749 for the 32GB version, and $849 for the 64GB flavor.
