Sony and Panasonic give away BD players

Sony has followed on Panasonic's heels (who followed on LG's and Sony's before it) to give away a Blu-ray player with its Bravia TVs.

Step one: take one television
Step two: add Blu-ray player
Step three: sell, rinse, repeat.

That's right, Sony is once again on the bundling train, but instead of towing PS3 carriages it's now hooked up a caboose carrying S550 Blu-ray players.

To get yourself one of these players you'll need to buy: the XBR series featuring RGB LED backlight; the Z series with Motionflow 200Hz; the E or W series; the super-slim ZX series; or the wireless picture frame EX series.

The "give away" starts on 16 March and ends when they've cleared out 20,000 of the beasties.

The promotion follows hot on the heels of Panasonic's own "give away a black box" promotion — running until 9 April — which is giving away a DMP-BD35 with one of two of its 1080p plasmas: the TH-50PZ80A or the TH-42PZ80A.
