Epix Cast streams to TVs, no new hardware required

The movie channel's phone and tablets apps can casts to a whole bunch of smart TVs and set-top devices.

Cable movie channel Epix has announced that the latest version of its smartphone app will let users "cast" Epix to their smart TV, Roku box or other device

Epix's app already supports Google's own Chromecast system, but now adds tech from startup Vizbee to "connect to any connected TV device and cast content effortlessly from any authenticated mobile device."

Epix says the list of compatible equipment includes smart TVs from Samsung, LG, Sony and Vizio as well as Amazon Fire TV, Google Chromecast and Roku devices.

Using the service you can watch on one TV then seamlessly switch to a different TV, and like Chromecast you can also turn the casting device off while the content is playing.

Epix says the same movie library will be available through Epix Cast as through the Epix app.

The app is available on iOS and Android.
