Build your own Google Home, for the price of a magazine

What do you get when you cross Google and a Raspberry Pi? A cardboard Google assistant you can build yourself, that's what.

The Google Home smart speaker will soon have another competitor, and it's produced with the help of Google itself. The Google AIY Projects Kit will enable Raspberry Pi enthusiasts to build their own version of Google Home.

The kit is part of Issue 57 of the £5.99 MagPi magazine which includes a working speaker driver and other parts which the reader can use to assemble their own digital assistant. The cardboard kit uses the Google Assistant SDK to answer questions and even control compatible gear.

The only downside? The magazine seems to have already sold out. If you don't mind sourcing your own parts you can get a free digital version of the magazine here.
