Rockstar games always generate some serious buzz, but fan excitement over a new GTA title usually registers on the Richter scale.

So, there'll be a few sad gamers out there after Rockstar posted the official GTA V release date on its blog: 17 September 2013.

The post noted that this date is a little later than previously anticipated, even going so far as to offer apologies.

We know this is about four months later than originally planned, and we know that this short delay will come as a disappointment to many of you, but, trust us, it will be worth the extra time. GTA V is a massively ambitious and complex game, and it simply needs a little more polish to be of the standard we and, more importantly, you require.

At the moment, we're anticipating that the Australian launch will happen around the same time, but for safety's sake readers should assume that this is the North American date, and we'll update with local availability ASAP.

Oh, and no — no comment on a PC version still.
