Visit 'Force Awakens' planet Jakku in Star Wars: Battlefront trailer

A new trailer for the game Star Wars: Battlefront reveals what caused that Imperial Star Destroyer to crash down on the planet of Jakku in the trailers for "Star Wars: The Force Awakens."

Electronic Arts released a new trailer for the hotly anticipated game Star Wars: Battlefront on Tuesday, and it gives a really good sense of the events of the intense Battle of Jakku that occurred 29 years before the plot of "Star Wars: The Force Awakens."

In the short clip, we see members of the New Republic -- the galactic government established by the Rebel Alliance after its victory over the Empire in the Battle of Endor -- on the offensive against a group of holdout Imperial fighters on the remote desert planet of Jakku.

Since the trailers for the movie prominently feature Jakku, we can assume the planet plays a key role in "Star Wars: The Force Awakens." Those who play Star Wars: Battlefront will be able to immerse themselves in the major battle that took place on Jakku, giving them valuable insight into the planet ahead of "Star Wars: The Force Awakens."

The Battle of Jakku will be available as free downloadable content (DLC) to all Star Wars: Battlefront owners on December 8. Those who preordered the game will get access to the DLC one week early on December 1. The game itself will be released on PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on November 17 in the US and November 19 in Australia and the UK.

"Star Wars: The Force Awakens" lands in theaters in the UK and Australia on December 17, followed by the US on December 18.
