An actual meatspace butchery popped up in London's Smithfield Meat Market selling "human" flesh to promote Resident Evil 6.
Called Wesker & Son (Wholesale Meats), the butchery, which was open until 29 September, was a pop-up store selling meat products simulating human body parts, as a promotion for the launch of Resident Evil 6, which is out this week.
Customers were able to sample and buy the meat, which included "Peppered Human & Lemon Sausages" and "J'avo Caught Human Thigh Steaks", as well as pots of Red Herb and Green Herb. In a further (clever) move, Capcom will keep none of the proceeds from the stall. Instead, it will go to the Limbless Association, a UK group that provides support and information to those who have lost a limb.
In a release, Capcom said:
In addition to the pop-up human butchery and morgue, Resident Evil fans will be invited to attend two days of lectures at St Bartholomew's Hospital Pathology Museum, which have been designed to explore some of the themes in the game, and their links to real life.
It's quite wonderfully gruesome, and our one regret is that it only appeared in London. Nice one, Capcom.
