Sony's PlayStation 4 is proving its popularity among gamers.

The company announced Tuesday that total PlayStation 4 sales to consumers reached 5.3 million units on February 8. That's a bounce from the 2.1 million units Sony announced that it had sold in the device's first two weeks on store shelves at the end of November.

Sony's console has been popular internationally, but it's also tops in the US. Last week, research firm NPD revealed that the PlayStation 4 was the best-selling console in January, beating out the Xbox One in the US.

Looking ahead, sales should accelerate a bit for Sony. On February 22, the company is launching its PlayStation 4 in Japan. It's already available in North America, Latin America, Europe, and other parts of Asia.
