PS4 release date revealed
Sony has announced the release date for the new PlayStation 4 games console.
The PS4 release date has been announced: Sony's new PlayStation 4 games console hits shops on 29 November 2013 in Europe, two weeks after the US launch date of 15 November.
Sony announced the new PlayStation's launch date during a press conference at video games shindig Gamescom 2013 in Germany today. Games at launch will include Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag, Watchdogs, Battlefield 4 and Killzone: Shadow Fall.
Sony also announced that it's teamed up with Internet service providers including Orange and Virgin Media to offer special broadband packages, with bandwidth reserved for gaming.
Previous rumours suggested the PS4 would land on 21 October, giving it a headstart over the rival Xbox One console's rumoured launch on 29 November. Now it seems they'll be neck-and-neck. The ball's in Microsoft's court: Microsoft today confirmed that Xbox One pre-orders will get a free copy of football'em-up FIFA 14 but failed to name a date.
The PS4's £349 price tag still gives it a distinct advantage over the Xbox One -- it's a whopping £80 cheaper than the much-maligned Microsoft console.
Sony has already warned that advance orders aren't guaranteed a console on launch day, suggesting the PS4 has already won over a large number of gamers.
Meanwhile the current PS3 will drop in price to €199 (£170).
