Pokemon Go will reward you for catching the same monsters

Your quest to become a Pokemon Master will soon be a tad easier.

Pokemon Go players know the game is mostly just catching the same Pokemon over and over. Niantic, its creator, will lean into this and introduce a new feature that rewards you for doing exactly that.

Currently, players get medals for catching multiple Pokemon of the same type -- 10 fighting types or 50 water types, for example. In an upcoming update, developers said in a blog post Wednesday, earning these medals will boost your odds of catching Pokemon of the corresponding type.

"For example," the post said, "as you reach a higher tier for the Kindler Medal, your bonus to catch Fire-type Pokémon such as Charmander, Vulpix and Ponyta increases."

The game's last big update took place a month ago with the introduction of the Buddy feature, which lets you walk Pokemon for candies which you can in turn use to evolve them.

The Pokemon Go app, which was released over the summer, has been a phenomenon, distraction, sensation and spectacle, with hundreds of millions of downloads and obsessive play.
