Pacino joins Hollywood game celebs

Vivendi Universal has confirmed that Al Pacino will lend his likeness to Scarface: The World Is Yours - meaning that Tony Montana will look just as he did in the 1983 movie. While Pacino won't actually be doing any voice work, some of the original Scarface actors will, such as Steven Bauer and Robert Loggia (who played Manny Ray and Frank Lopez respectively).

Other celebs to join the Scarface cast include Jay Mohr, Ceech Marin, James Woods, Miguel Sandoval, Robert Davi, Michael Rappaport and Michael York. Scarface: The World Is Yours will follow a what-if scenario, where Montana survives the bloody shoot out at the end of the film and is forced to rebuild his drug empire. The game will be released for PlayStation 2, Xbox and PC.

While Hollywood actors have long lent their voices to video games, Pacino is the latest old-school Hollywood luminary to finally embrace the medium. Some of the big announcements of recent weeks include:

• Electronic Art's upcoming Godfather games will feature the voices of James Caan and Robert Duvall, will once again play hot-tempered mob scion Sonny Corleone and cool-headed consigliere Tom Hagen. The late Marlon Brando also recorded lines as Don Vito Corleone before his death last year. There's no specific word yet on which platforms the game will be released on.
• Clint Eastwood is not only lending his likeness and voice to an upcoming Dirty Harry game from Warner Bros, but his company Malpaso Productions would also produce the title. The Dirty Harry game is scheduled for next generation consoles, which probably means a release date of 2006.
• Sean Connery will step back into 007's shoes, this time in a virtual capacity as he lends his voice and likeness to Electronic Art's upcoming From Russia With Love game.
