Just when you thought Nintendo was done, they offered up one more E3 surprise.

Nintendo on Tuesday stealthily revealed Metroid Samus Returns for 3DS. The announcement came via Twitter during the Nintendo Treehouse Live stream, after all the major announcements seemed to be finished. It was also revealed that MercurySteam, the team who made Castlevania: Lords of Shadow, is developing the game.

Presented as a re-imagination of the classic Game Boy title from 1991, Metroid II: Samus Returns, this new side-scrolling adventure will feature 3D visuals, an atmospheric color palette, new upgrades and improved aiming.

Nintendo says Metroid: Samus Returns will launch on September 15, 2017.
