Confirmed: Fruit Ninja game will be blended into a big-screen film

Move over, Angry Birds. The juicy mobile-game app will soon be coming to a theater near you.

What could be more exciting than two hours of slicing fruit?

Sharpen your blades, ninjas. Popular mobile game Fruit Ninja has moved closer to becoming a movie. No, we're not kidding. People went to "The Angry Birds Movie," didn't they?

New Line Cinema has bought the rights to make a movie out of the game, according to The Hollywood Reporter. It'll revolve around "a team of misfits who are recruited to become Fruit Ninjas in order to save the world."

May brought news that writers J.P. Lavin and Chad Damiani would write the script for a live-action family comedy based on the slicing and dicing game. Their film, "How to Survive a Garden Gnome Attack," is in production.

Fruit Ninja has been downloaded over 1 billion times, second only to Candy Crush Saga on the list of most-downloaded iOS games.

Actually, the mere fact that the movie involves ninjas seems to give it more plot potential than birds slingshotting themselves at pigs out to steal their eggs. Maybe there's treasure hidden in the fruit? Or secret messages? Or maybe they just have to make a really nice fruit salad.
