Final Fantasy 7 Remake gameplay demo shows chunk of the game's opening

The video sees Cloud and Barrett battling the game's first boss, the Guardian Scorpion, and comes just after the Tokyo Game Show trailer revealed Don Corneo and the Turks.

Square Enix gave us a double dose of the Final Fantasy 7 Remake Wednesday, letting us see a gameplay demo of the beloved game's opening section and revealing a bunch of characters in a trailer during Tokyo Game Show 2019. The first trailer, embedded above, shows the game's her Cloud Strife and ally Barret Wallace on the morally dubious bombing mission where they run into the first boss, the Guardian Scorpion.

It showcases the smooth new battle system, which lets you jump between Cloud and Barret at will. You can also see the green Materia (which lets you cast magic) embedded in Cloud's Buster Sword, which is a nice detail to include.

The cinematic trailer (embedded above) offers a fresh look at the updated version of Square Enix's beloved game during Tokyo Game Show 2019. It shows us plenty more action in the game's early section in the dystopian city of Midgar.

We even get a hint about the quirky section where Cloud dresses up as a woman to infiltrate the lecherous Don Corneo's mansion. The trailer gives us our first glimpse of the Turks, the goon squad for evil megacorporation Shin-Ra, summons Shiva and Ifrit, and Cloud being turned into a frog in the midst of battle.

The remake is coming on March 3, 2020. And though it's only the first part of the game, it will still span two Blu-ray discs. For fans of the classic RPG, Square Enix is putting out a $330 Final Fantasy 7 Remake collector's edition.

The first part of the Final Fantasy 7 Remake hits the PlayStation 4 on March 3, 2020.
