Final Fantasy 16 Trailer Offers Taste of Glorious Melodramatic Tale
It's coming to PS5 next summer.
Clive Rosfield is Final Fantasy 16's moody protagonist.
Final Fantasy 16 got a new trailer on Thursday, giving us more hints about the upcoming RPG's world and backstory. With the dramatic title of Ambition, it initially focuses on the tension between the factions of Valisthea as disease spreads across the land.
That part seems fairly grounded, but it soon shifts gears to the fantasy element by jumping to the Dominants – people who can summon awesome elemental beings. You play as the sword-wielding Clive Rosfield.
The Square Enix game is scheduled to hit PS5 in summer 2023.
The game was revealed during the original PS5 showcase in 2020. In December, Square Enix acknowledged that the game had been delayed by the pandemic.
It'll be the first mainline entry in the series since 2016's Final Fantasy 15, but fans haven't exactly been starved for adventures -- Final Fantasy 15 got downloadable content until 2019 and the incredible Final Fantasy 7 Remake came out in 2020. Followup Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth is due out late next year.
