'Dead Space' Trailer Reveals Remake's Spooky Gameplay
Isaac Clarke's terrifying first adventure returns in January, and it's available to preorder.
EA kicked off the Halloween season on Tuesday, with a trailer showing gameplay of its upcoming Dead Space remake. It hits PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC on Jan. 27.
The $70 game also went up for preorderon Tuesday, with a fancy $275 collector's edition also available.
Developer Motive's remake aims to stay faithful to the original 2008 version of the horror game, while rebuilding it with EA's Frostbite game engine.
The third-person action-adventure game follows engineer Isaac Clarke as he explores a mining spaceship overrun by extremely scary monsters. The original got sequels in 2011 and 2013.
One major change from the original will be a chatty Isaac -- the character was a silent protagonist in the 2008 version. The remake will see Gunner Wright, who played the character in the sequels, returning to the role.
Motive previously developed the single player campaign in 2017's Star Wars: Battlefront 2 and 2020 space battler Star Wars: Squadrons. It's also working on an Iron Man game with Marvel.
Game remakes have been increasingly common in recent years, as companies revisit their biggest hits on new hardware. Capcom already released remakes of Resident Evil 2 and 3, with the fourth game in the series getting the same treatment next year. Square Enix remade Final Fantasy 7 in 2020, and Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic is getting a remake at some point in the future.
