Maybe it was Pokemon Go.
Apple CEO Tim Cook tweeted Wednesday that July was the best month in the App Store's history, setting records for both monthly billings and money paid to developers. In a subsequent tweet, Cook said developers have earned more than $50 billion from the consumer electronics giant since the digital bazaar opened in 2008.
Cook didn't explain why July was so good, but we're thinking Pokemon Go had something to do with it.
The app, from Nintendo and Niantic, was downloaded more than any other in history after it was launched on July 6. Apple declined to provide the number of downloads at that time, but judging by the number of transfixed Pokemon Go player roaming the streets, it's a lot.
