EDS touts $100 million in outsourcing deals

The company signs an array of deals to provide IT services to businesses in the United States and Europe.

Electronic Data Systems on Tuesday said it has signed deals with two European and two American companies for information technology services.

The new or renewed deals are worth a total of $100 million, the company said without divulging the financial details of individual contracts.

EDS has signed an eight-year agreement with Italy's Banca Popolare Di Sondrio to host mainframe applications for the bank's 191 branches. French financial services firm Societe Generale has extended its contract with EDS to upgrade its IT infrastructure, which includes 15,000 workstations, 6,000 printers and telecommunications network services for 20,000 users.

The deals could provide some measure of comfort to the software and services company, which recently lost out on a billion-dollar deal in the United Kingdom.

The California State Automobile Association has also expanded its existing contract with EDS, covering additional mainframe-hosting services. EDS is already managing the association's mainframe computers, local-area network, midrange servers and 8,500 desktops.

EDS said it recently signed a five-year deal with The National Clearing House to handle its transaction-processing services. The agreement covers image replacement document printing and distribution to comply with the Check Clearing for the 21st Century Act, which gives digital images of checks and copies of them the same standing as the original.
