Verizon Wireless customers in need of a small, powerful tablet have a new option as of today: the Asus ZenPad Z8.

Running Android Marshmallow, the Z8 is the first Qualcomm Snapdragon-powered Asus tablet available in the US with Verizon Wireless. Designed for gobbling down all types of media, the 7.9-inch IPS display has a 2,048x1,536-pixel resolution (QXGA) with 178-degree viewing angles, paired with dual-front facing stereo speakers with DTS-HD support.

Support for Verizon's 4G LTE network is a given, but it's also ready for the telecom giant's XLTE service that doubles the network's 4G LTE bandwidth. It also has 802.11ac Wi-Fi and Bluetooth.

Other key specs include:

  • Snapdragon 650 hexacore processor
  • Qualcomm Adreno 510 GPU
  • 2GB RAM
  • 16GB internal storage
  • A microSD card slot supporting cards up to 128GB
  • USB Type-C connector
  • 8-megapixel rear-facing camera
  • 2-megapixel front-facing camera
  • Up to 13 hours of battery life
  • 11.3-ounce weight

The ZenPad Z8 can be ordered today, and it will be in stores June 23 for $250 or on a device payment plan for less than $11 per month for 24 months. A $35 folio case is also available that protects the tablet and acts as an adjustable stand giving you four viewing angles and another for typing. It activates the Z8's auto sleep/wake function, too.
