Sun Microsystems on Tuesday said that it will hold a "Wall Street Council" and have a series of technical workshops in November geared specifically for developers that work at financial institutions.
Sun intends to release an update to its Java programming tool, called Sun Studio 10, later this year in conjunction with its forthcoming Solaris 10 operating system. Sun Studio 10 will have a compiler that will allow programmers to write applications that take full advantage the 64-bit capabilities of Solaris and AMD Opteron servers, company executives said. Sun said it is also extending a deal to give developers a workstation built on an AMD Opteron processor when they sign up for a three-year subscription to Sun's development tools program.
