Sony Cyber-shot T2: Monster memory

Sony has launched the Cyber-shot T2, an 8-megapixel touchscreen compact with an enormous 4GB of built-in memory

Just when we'd vented our spleens on the pointlessness of lilliputian internal memory in cameras, along comes the Sony Cyber-shot T2. Named for someone at Sony's favourite film, perhaps? The T2 packs a cyborg killing machine of a memory, with a whopping 4GB onboard.

According to Sony, the enormous memory stuffs in 1,000 pictures at full 8-megapixel resolution or up to 40,000 pictures at VGA quality. That means you can start taking pictures with the T2, and it will not stop, ever, until you are dead. Or until the memory is full, whichever.

It's an 8-megapixel compact with a fairly standard 3x optical zoom lens, and much more important, optical image stabilisation.

Other features include high-definition viewing, tagging and favourites folders, and Sony's pointless and facile Smile Shutter feature.

The T2 features a 68mm (2.7-inch) touchscreen. One-touch upload to photo sharing sites including Flickr, Photobucket and Shutterfly is available built-in. For our money this could be way more useful than the YouTube upload function pioneered by Casio and also available on the T2.

We'll be back -- if you click on the next link.

The T2 utilises Sony's own MediaStick Duo, MS PRO Duo, MS PRO Duo (High Speed), and PRO-HG Duo media should 4GB not be enough for you. And that's just greedy.

It will be available in a choice of black, white, blue, pink or green flavours. Our pictues show the hideous lime-green version. Sorry about that. The T2 is available now from and will retail at £249.99.

Hasta la vista, etc.
