Affordable luxury. Skybar

Someday, in the far, far future, all food and beverages will be available with either a push of a button or a pull of a tap. Instead of pushing buttons on the phone (or speed dial for some of us) to order a pizza for delivery, some sort of integrated kitchen appliance will provide us with a freshly baked pie. The kitchen scene in Back to the Future had some such contrivance, but for the rest of us, we'll just have to wait. The food-on-demand system may not be available quite yet, but at least when it comes to beverages, the future is already here.

From refrigerator doors that serve more than just water to the always popular kegerator, beverages on tap are available for anything you may desire. Wine however, is usually underrepresented (the not in-a-box variety, that is) when it comes to being able to draw a glass straight from the tap. The Skybar One Wine System changes that.

With 15 preset temperature settings (manual adjustments are possible too), the wine you want is always at the ready. More than just a serving spout for convenient wine access, air is evacuated from the bottle, creating a vacuum to preserve open bottles for up to 10 days.

This isn't the first Skybar we've seen, but with one chamber as opposed to three, the serving and storing device is much more attainable. With a MSRP of $399, the appliance may still be a luxury gadget, but it's a luxury gadget that's in reach.

The Skybar One Wine System will be available in stores summer 2010 (and on into the future).
