Sigma's known for great lenses that generally cost under $1,000; for Photokina 2016, the company has debuted a trio of pricier models aimed at pro photographers. All of them are for full-frame Canon, Nikon and Sigma mounts, and the Nikon versions incorporate an electromagnetic diaphragm.
The wide angle 12-24mm F4 DG HSM Art has all the features and build characteristics of the company's line of Art lenses; it's designed to deliver smooth out-of-focus areas and edge-to-edge sharpness. It can focus as close as 9.4 in/24 cm. Sigma plans to ship it in October for $1,600.
Portrait photographers should start saving for the 85mm F1.4 DG HSM Art. You have until late October to accumulate the $1,200 purchase price.
And sports photographers might want to consider the 500mm F4 DG OS HSM Sport, built from magnesium alloy components, with dust-and-splashproof construction and a water- and oil-resistant front element. It has standard and panning-optimized optical stabilization, a focus memory setting and a rear slot for filters. You'll be able to get it for $6,000 in October.
