The Germ Eliminating Knife Block. Hammacher Schlemmer

Germs. Those nasty little pests that seems to crawl up into anything and everything. To make matters worse, we can't even see them, lurking there in the dark. Well, now we can fear them no longer. Shine a light (literally) into those dark corners and 99.99 percent of the little bugs will be gone. At least gone from your knife set if you use The Germ Eliminating Knife Block from Hammacher Schlemmer.

The knife block uses UV-C light to disrupt the nasty goings-ons of microscopic critters like salmonella, listeria, and staphylococcus. This is the same method that hospitals use to kill surface pathogens. Microorganisms are affected at a cellular level when exposed to the radiation, so they have little chance of not going 'into the light'.

The knife block can be set to bathe your knife set with UV-C on a regular basis or just when knives are inserted. Simply wash the knives and put them away. The heat from the lamp even dries them for you. I know with my current knife block I am diligent about making sure my knives are bone-dry before putting them away. I don't want to know what creepy-crawlies would be growing in the deep recesses of my knife block if water were allowed to collect. With five slots for a variety of knives, one may never have to worry about what unseen danger there is lurking in your kitchen cutlery set.
