Designed for home entertainment on the go, the Galaxy View tablet measures 18.4 inches and comes with a handle and a kickstand.

Samsung has lifted the lid on the Galaxy View, an 18.4-inch tablet designed to be a video-watching companion for those on the move.

The South Korean tech giant first teased the View at Berlin trade show IFA at the beginning of September, but has now posted photos on the company blog showing the massive tablet from multiple angles.

The View is one of the more unusual devices Samsung has unveiled this year, With a video-centric interface that comes with a dedicated home screen for media apps, the company has made its vision for the tablet perfectly clear. This is a home-entertainment device for people who do not watch video in a single location, and there's certainly nothing else quite like it out there at the moment.

The Galaxy View sports a full HD 1,920x1,080 display, above which sits a 2.1-megapixel forward-facing camera. Inside is 1.6GHz octa-core processor and 2GB of RAM. A 5,700mAh battery promises eight hours of video playback and the 32GB or 64GB of internal memory can be expanded using a microSD card.

The View will not ship with the latest version of Google's mobile software, nicknamed Android Marshmallow. Instead it will arrive running Marshmallow's predecessor Android 5.1 Lollipop.

Samsung boasts that the View is "the largest Android mobile device on the market" -- although weighing in at 2.65kg it will definitely be less "mobile" than the average smartphone or tablet. A handle features on the rear of the tablet to make it more portable and a kickstand allows it to be propped upright without needing support.

Samsung is yet to make an announcement regarding pricing and availability.
