Report: Find My Mac coming to Mac OS X 10.7 Lion

With Apple's Worldwide Developer's Conference in sight, new reports are surfacing that offer extended confirmation that a Find My Mac feature will be part of the Mac OS X Lion, the next major upgrade to Apple's desktop OS.

With Apple's Worldwide Developer's Conference in sight, new reports are surfacing that offer extended confirmation that a Find My Mac feature will be part of Mac OS X Lion, the next major upgrade to Apple's desktop OS.

Find My Mac will most likely work similar to Find My iPhone (or iPad or iPod Touch), allowing registered Macs to be seen on a map when connected to an Internet-enabled network. MacRumors forum user ArmanUV wrote: "DP3 through software update failed for me so I decided to format the Lion partition and install it again. This is the warning I got when I tried to install Lion on a HFS+ journaled formatted partition."

There is not much information available about Find My Mac, but it should offer users the ability to ping a lost Mac that appears online, lock the OS, and perhaps even perform a remote wipe. Find My Mac will most likely be part of the iCloud announcement at WWDC, but no information is available as to whether it will be a Lion-only feature or available for Snow Leopard as well.
