One of the funkiest new gadgets we've seen on our trip to South Korea is the Samsung P400 pocket projector. Okay, 'pocket' is something of a misnomer -- it's about the size of a Mac Mini, so you'll need baggy clown trousers if you want to carry it around with you, but we're sure you get the idea.

Not only is it pretty small, it's also lightweight -- we're not sure how heavy exactly, but it's certainly under 1kg. It sports an attractive glossy black finish, an internal battery pack that can keep it running for approximately 2 hours away from the mains, a built-in speaker, plus composite and D-Sub video inputs.

It only runs at SVGA resolution -- 800x600 pixels -- but that's higher than the resolution used by DVD movies and, indeed, consoles such as the Nintendo Wii and PS2. The quality of the image was commendable, too. We managed to get an image size of approximately 50 inches from around 2m away, and the 150 ANSI lumens brightness was certainly watchable -- even in a room that was reasonably well-lit.

Like it? We do, too. Have a look at the pictures over the following pages, then reach in your wallet -- it's yours for €699 (£555). -Rory Reid

Here, the system's being held by our gorgeous hand model. Round the back you'll find D-Sub and composite video inputs, plus a USB service jack, and an audio input jack.

Here we see a wheel that can be used to adjust the focus of the image. Sound is also transmitted through the side of the chassis via an internal speaker. The quality of the audio isn't anything spectacular, but it's a handy feature to have nontheless.

Here it is in action. It's approximately 2m away from the screen -- which is actually intended for a much larger projector -- but manages to generate an image that's about 50 inches in size. It doesn't run in native widescreen, but just think of the fun you could have with one of these things.
