Ouya to cost £99 in Britain, arrive in March

Crowd-funded, Android-powered games console Ouya is set to arrive on these shores in March for a smidge under £100.

Oi you -- Ouya has a rumoured British price and release date. The crowd-funded Android-powered games console is set to arrive on these shores in March for £99.

The console will not only cost just south of a ton, but will be followed by a 3D version later this year, Pocket-lint reports. Plug the console into a 3DTV and your games gain an extra dimension.

Even if you're not enamoured of 3D, a bonus feature with some 3DTVs is that two glasses-wearing gamers sat side-by-side can play a multiplayer game on the same TV and both see their game on the whole screen, instead of splitting the screen in two. Fingers crossed a tri-dee Ouya offers the same feature.

The console runs Android software so anyone can build games for it, bridging the gap between casual games played on phones or tablets and traditional games consoles. It also connects to OnLive to play games online. Roughly the size of a Rubik's Cube, the Ouya is see-through and comes with customisable controllers.

Ouya is the result of a wildly successful Kickstarter campaign that earned over £5m. You can pre-order it now and get it delivered anywhere outside the US for a total of $119 (£73), direct from Ouya, for delivery in April. The £99 price tag will apply to Ouya when you buy it in UK shops.

Which shops will sell the Ouya console has yet to be confirmed, although there is talk that Amazon will be the only place you can buy it at first.
