Ouya apologizes to Kickstarter supporters, offers $13 credit
The company offers backers who didn't receive a console until after it was on store shelves a $13.37 credit for use in the Ouya Discovery Store.
Ouya, the open-source console maker that became a smash hit on Kickstarter, was forced to apologize over the weekend to some of its most important backers.
In an e-mail sent to Kickstarter supporters, noted on Sunday by Mashable, Ouya CEO Julie Uhrman said that "it wasn't OK that some of you -- our most loyal supporters -- didn't get your Ouya until after it was on store shelves." Uhrman was referencing her company's promise that those who supported the console on Kickstarter last year would receive the console before it hit store shelves in June. In some cases, that didn't happen.
Uhrman offered the affected buyers $13.37 in Ouya Discovery Store credits. The Discovery Store offers Ouya owners a platform to pick up new games for the Android-based console. However, Uhrman has revealed that just 27 percent of current Ouya owners have downloaded any titles from the Discovery Store, indicating a somewhat low engagement with the console.
Ouya hasn't said how many Kickstarter backers were late receiving their consoles.
