Nintendo TVii is streaming video on Wii U, not for UK yet
The Wii U is getting a streaming video service -- read on for all the details.
Alongside confirmation that the Wii U will go on sale in the UK on 30 November, Nintendo has wheeled out some interesting TV streaming tech for its quirky new console.
Dubbed Nintendo TVii (of course), the new service will feature services like Netflix, Hulu Plus and Amazon Instant Video. You select the video that you want to watch using the tablet-style controller, CNET reports, then you can use that touchscreen gamepad to do things like tweet about the show you're watching.
Using the controller you can also favourite and share programmes, or record them if you have a TiVo box. Other TVii features that use the controller will be cruising IMDb and watching trailers. If you're watching sports on your telly, the tablet controller will display stats relating to the game.
Sounds cool, no? Here's the bad news -- this service will be confined to the US and Canada, at least for now. That's dismaying, but not surprising, as most of the services listed above are currently confined to the States.
If Nintendo can gets licensing deals in place, it's possible we'll see the service making its way to Britain. Microsoft has an impressive video-on-demand line-up on the Xbox 360, with Sky, Netflix and iPlayer all sitting pretty alongside its own stuff on its green-glowing console -- fingers crossed Nintendo can repeat the trick.
The Wii U will be out on 30 November in Europe, ahead of an 8 December Japanese launch, but after the 18 November launch date the US will enjoy. At the moment it looks like you'll be shelling out around £200-250 for the privilege of owning one, and Bayonetta 2 has been confirmed as an exciting Wii U exclusive that's bound to excite the hardcore crowd.
