Microwaves and pizza, together at last?

Popcorn may be the king of microwave snacks, but a new ceramic composite microwave grill is looking to change that.

The Silar Microwave Grill and Flatstone. Silar

Ever since the microwave was introduced, humans have tried to improve upon it. We were promised quick and easy cooking with excellent results. Well, we got the quick and easy part, but deliciousness has certainly lagged behind. As such, a multitude of devices and contraptions has paraded through the microwaves of the world trying to help bring truth to the term microwaveable. All of those revolving trays and browning plates have some new competition as Advanced Composite Materials introduces the Silar Microwave Grill and Flatstone.

According to the manufacturer: "Silar's new microwave-conduction cooking allows food to cook both on top and on the underside evenly and uniformly. The Silar Microwave Grill & Flatstone rises to cooking temperatures in as little as five seconds, and can reduce cook times by up to 90 percent." Throw in the fact that it's dishwasher safe and it's hard to imagine a future in which any microwave would not be complete without one of these deceivingly simple trays.

I've never been a big fan of microwaves simply because they couldn't hold a candle to good old-fashion stovetop cookery. Popcorn, yes. Pizza, no way. Even my toaster oven gets more use. Suddenly, a whole new world has opened up for me and I realize it just might be time to embrace the microwave. Just imagine having a grilled cheese sandwich come out of your microwave in seconds! I mean we all know everything tastes better grilled and crispy with a wonderfully juicy inside.

Currently, this oven insert is only being produced in industrial microwave sizes; however, other sizes are available upon request. I look forward to the time I will be able to actually reheat a slice of pizza in the microwave and not have it turn to mush. I don't know why it took so many years to create the perfect microwave accessory, but I do know that my toaster oven is going to be jealous.
