Microsoft said it plans to release in March the server component to a new collaborative development product, Visual Studio Team System(VSTS), a suite of tools for building Windows applications that has different editions tailored to specific development roles.

The suite includes a product for software architects that model and design applications and one for software testers. S. "Soma" Somasegar, vice president Microsoft's tools division, said Monday that the Team Foundation Server for VSTS will be released in March. He described Team Foundation Server as a "cornerstone" to the collaborative development product. The Team edition works in conjunction with Visual Studio 2005, the latest version of Microsoft's development platform, which was released late last year.
