MakerBot ships Replicator Mini Compact 3D printer
MakerBot announces the availability of the fifth-generation Replicator Mini Compact 3D printer, which retails for $1,375.
MakerBot announced today that it's now shipping the Replicator Mini, its fifth-generation compact 3D printer. When first unveiling the printer at CES 2014, MakerBot CEO Bre Pettis compared the new printer's 3D printing experience to the excitement "when people saw the first iPhone."
MakerBot now says the new Replicator Mini is "much like the transition of the computer moving into the home 30 years ago," hinting that this is one of the first 3D printers to make the jump from the office to the home.
MakerBot has been one of the biggest players in 3D printing. The company runs a website called Thingiverse, where users can find and download more than 300,000 3D printable items that can be printed on the Replicator Mini. On top of that, they can also purchase and download files from the MakerBot Digital Store or use a variety of simple design tools, to design their own 3D prints.
The MakerBot Replicator Mini is powered by the MakerBot 3D Printing Platform. It has an onboard camera to monitor its 3D printing via the soon-to-be-released MakerBot Mobile app, and it features the MakerBot Replicator Smart Extruder.
The printer is available now and slated to cost $1,375.
