Bread-making is as mysterious as it is old.

Throw a few simple ingredients together, add a little heat, and somehow they all come together to form the warm deliciousness that is a freshly baked loaf of bread. Understanding this process doesn't make it any less mysterious.

The interior light of the DeLonghi DBM450 Bread Maker won't make the microorganisms burping carbon dioxide any easier to see, but it will provide a good view of the baking process. Illuminating the cooking chamber of the countertop appliance may only make waiting for the bread to finish baking all the more excruciating, so a 58-minute rapid bake option is included along with 15 preprogrammed settings. Complementary to that are five programmable settings, allowing users to customize baking times as they see fit.

While the yeast may go about its business just fine without any modern assistance, it doesn't hurt to have a little help; help, that is, in the form of easy-to-use features. A lid-mounted fan ensures even heating down to every last nook and cranny, and an integrated ingredient dispenser means that even breads studded with fruits or nuts can be baked on automatic. Additionally, a timer feature allows for overnight baking and there is certainly no mystery in the allure of freshly baked bread in the morning--especially without any of that required kneading.
