Did you make New Year's resolutions? I thought about resolving not to buy any more gadgets, but with the temptations of the weak dollar and the vast shopping malls of Las Vegas, I knew I'd be led astray. Here's my first new gadget of 2007, the Sony GPS-CS1.

The GPS-CS1 is a GPS logger that clips to your rucksack or camera strap and records your location as you wander around taking photos. When you get back to your computer, you can download the log and 'geotag' your images with latitude and longitude data. This lets photo-sharing services like Flickr place them on a map, so you can see exactly where they were taken.
Location, location, location. Ten years ago we thought the Internet was going to change the world by bringing everyone into one vast, borderless community. We were wrong -- location might not be everything, but it does matter. With geotagging, you can let people know whether that beautiful view is just down the road, two hours' drive away or on the other side of the world. It's very cool.
