WonderFox HD Video Converter Factory Pro is free for a limited time. WonderFox

A couple weeks ago I told you how to get WonderFox DVD Ripper for free. (That offer has since expired, FYI.) Today, the company is back with a new giveaway, a program that's a fine companion to the previous one.

For a limited time, and exclusively for Cheapskate readers, you can get WonderFox HD Video Converter Factory Pro (Windows) for free. The program normally sells for $29.95.

Update: The link appears to be broken, possibly owing to excessive traffic. I'm checking with the developer and will update again when I know more.

Update #2: The link seems to be working again.

Update #3: Didn't get your code? Use this one: A4E420FF05869985FF7DECEFA6FE070198A4EBB5

Please read the following instructions before you go any further: Click the link in the previous paragraph, then click Get Free License. Enter your name and e-mail address, then click Send Email.

Return to the giveaway page and click Free Download. Before you install it, however, wait for your registration code to arrive via e-mail--which WonderFox says should happen within 48 hours. If you don't register the program upon installation, you'll end up with the trial version.

(Last time, many of you wrote in to say you hadn't received your registration code. I asked the developer why, and was told that some users failed to complete the e-mail form properly. Anyone who followed up with WonderFox was given the code.)

In case the name doesn't fully explain its function, HD Video Converter Factory Pro converts video files to just about any format you can imagine. Thus, if you've downloaded, say, an MKV file and can't get it to play, this program can turn it into an almost universally compatible MP4.

Likewise, if you're having trouble getting your video editing software to recognize your older camcorder's MOD files, just convert them to AVI, WMV, or the like.

Video Converter Factory comes with a variety of output presets for devices like BlackBerrys, iPhones, Android phones, and Sony PSPs. It also offers basic video editing and special effects. (Get the full feature scoop on WonderFox's product page.)

The only thing you don't get: upgrades and tech support. But, hey, WonderFox can't give away the entire store, right? I think this is a handy program to keep on hand, and unlike the stuff you get from Giveaway of the Day, it's not time-coded--meaning you can reinstall it in the future if the need arises.

Bonus deal: If your computer is new enough to have USB 3.0 ports, you'll definitely want USB 3.0 external storage to go with it. TigerDirect has the Toshiba PH3200U-1E3S 2TB external hard drive for $79.99, plus $5.43 for shipping. It's USB 3.0 and USB 2.0 compatible.
