Given what's happening along the Eastern Seaboard today, it's hard for me to get too enthused about tech deals. Something tells me we should be saving our money for disaster relief. My heart goes out to everyone affected by this horrendous storm.

That said, maybe you could use a little distraction from all the awful news. If you can scrounge up five bucks, you can get a top-rated PC game that'll give you a whole different kind of scare.

It's the Steam Halloween Sale 2012. The download service has slashed prices on more than three dozen games, including four shooters I positively love -- each priced at just $4.99. Here's the rundown:

BioShock 2 I've written about this game before, and I'll no doubt write about it again -- it's the sequel to one of my favorite action-RPG titles ever, and it's every bit as good if the original (if not exactly original in its own right). Play it and whet your appetite for the upcoming BioShock Infinite.

Dead Space 2 Another awesome sequel, Dead Space 2 mashes together some of the best aspects of "Alien," Half-Life, and the classic System Shock, resulting in one of the scariest games ever. Turn the lights down and the speakers up. (Better yet, wear headphones.) Also, keep your heart meds handy.

F.E.A.R. 3 The whole F.E.A.R. series is like a horror movie come to life. A horror movie about hell. Thankfully, you've got guns -- lots and lots of guns. Also, genetic enhancements, which come in handy when battling demons.

Left 4 Dead 2 Nothing says spooky like zombies -- especially the fast-moving "28 Days Later" kind. Like the original, this terrifying FPS casts you as part of a team instead of a lone zombie-whomper. Single-player: great. Multiplayer: unreal.

OK, those are my picks. Have you found any other must-have game deals in Steam's Halloween sale? Tell me about 'em in the comments! And be safe out there, especially if you live on the East Coast.

Bonus deal: Speaking of games, in case you missed the original post, you still have the chance to give trick-or-treaters a free copy of Plants vs. Zombies (PC/Mac). And don't forget to give yourself a free copy as well. Love that game.
