Get an 8GB flash drive for $4.50 shipped

That's the after-rebate price, but it's still the best deal I've ever seen on an 8GB drive. Too good to pass up, if you ask me!

The Patriot X-Porter Mini 8GB flash drive is just $4.50 after rebate.
The Patriot X-Porter Mini 8GB flash drive is just $4.50 after rebate. Amazon

Flash drives--is there anything they can't do? Well, OK, I guess they can't make waffles (though they could store a few million recipes for them!), but they're awesome for things like transporting large files, making on-the-fly backups, purging malware from your PC, and even loading temporary Linux distros.

For what promises to be a very limited time, Amazon has the Patriot X-Porter Mini 8GB flash drive for $4.50 shipped. That's after redeeming a $10 mail-in rebate (PDF), which comes in the form of a prepaid Visa debit card. (That's as good as cash, IMHO).

Update: Amazon is now sold out! Although the product is still available, it's now being sold by a third-party vendor, which is why you're seeing an additional shipping charge. Also, the rebate will not work if you buy from another vendor! For all intents and purposes, this deal is over.

I was really hesitant to post this today, as I'm sure these will sell out in no time. But, hey, the Cheapskate life is a risky one. And I've got extra bonus deals below just in case.

The X-Porter definitely lives up to its "Mini" moniker, measuring less than 2 inches long. Patriot says its orange rubber housing protects it from moisture, shock, and all the detritus floating around in your pocket.

The drive has an average rating of 4.5 stars from roughly three dozen Amazon users. Sounds like a winner to me. Even without the rebate, $14.50 is not at all a bad price for an 8GB drive. (Surprisingly, Amazon has waived the $25-minimum requirement for free shipping.) Think you'll grab one?

Bonus deal: Micro Center has the Verbatim Media Share 1TB Home Media Server for $79.99, plus $6 for shipping. It's like a traditional external hard drive, but one that connects to your router to share photos, videos, and the like with your PCs, game consoles, etc.

Bonus deal No. 2: iNetVideo has "The Lord of the Rings" trilogy on Blu-ray for $19.99, plus $5 for shipping. Even though these are the theatrical versions only, that's a pretty sweet price!
