Get a Roku 2 XD for $49.99

It's a refurb, so what? The warranty's the same as a new Roku. Unlike lesser boxes, this one streams at a full 1080p. Plus: two bonus deals!

A couple weeks back I declared a moratorium of sorts on deals from 1SaleADay, citing a steady stream of reader complaints about slow shipping and poor communication.

Soon thereafter I heard from a friendly and apologetic company exec who agreed the company has "room to improve" in these areas and is working to improve response times. He also noted that 1SaleADay does provide tracking numbers, via both e-mail and the customer's account page.

A bigger issue is the slow shipping. According to 1SaleADay's FAQ page, most orders are processed within five business days, while delivery times range from 3-14 days. In other words, it may indeed take up to three weeks for your order to arrive. That's not exactly speedy, but neither does it represent fraud on the company's part (as several readers have suggested).

Bottom line: If you're going to patronize 1SaleADay, don't expect your item to arrive with Amazon Prime expediency. Be prepared to be patient. As I've noted before, I've ordered from the company several times, and each time the item arrived in a reasonable time frame and in as-advertised condition.

Consequently, I'm going to continue to share their deals when they have especially good ones. Like today: 1SaleADay has the refurbished Roku 2 XD for $49.99, plus $4.99 for shipping.

This is one of the higher-end Roku boxes, with support for 1080p video streaming. Other, lesser Rokus top out at 720p. A new XD sells for $79.99, so this is a decidedly decent savings.

Of course, because it's a refurb, you get only a 90-day warranty. But guess what? New Rokus also have a 90-day warranty, so there's no downside to going the refurb route. Whether you're looking to buy your first Roku box or your fourth, this is a tough deal to pass up.

Bonus deal: Zvox Audio makes some terrific single-cabinet speaker systems for HDTVs. Right now, you can get the limited-edition Z-Base VT420 low-profile single-cabinet surround-sound system for $299.99. It has the same high-end circuitry as the pricier Z-Base 555, minus the Dolby Digital decoder.

Bonus deal No. 2: This just missed the cut for Tablet Tuesday: Radio Shack has the Google Nexus 7 (32GB) for $229 shipped when you apply coupon code RMN20 at checkout. That's $20 less than you'll find it most other places. What's more, you also qualify for four $10 Radio Shack coupons as part of a holiday promotion.
