Emulex helps with Sun's Solaris for Intel

Sun Microsystems has expanded a deal with Emulex, a maker of adapters to connect servers to networked storage devices, in a move to improve Sun's version of the Solaris operating system for Intel servers. In its earlier Sun partnership, Emulex previously supported only the more widely used version of Solaris for machines using Sun's UltraSparc processors.

Sun is trying to bring the Intel version of Solaris, which also runs on other "x86" chips such as Advanced Micro Devices' Athlon and Opteron, up to parity with the UltraSparc version. To do so, the company must woo a large number of hardware and software companies to add their support as well.
