December is always a lean period for new tech, with everything already out the door and fully reviewed in time for the Christmas push. Nevertheless, there were two highlights of the month -- a beastly gaming laptop and a smart new Android phone -- each fully deserving their status as CNET UK Editors' Choice winners.
Alienware M15x
The M15x is a gamer's delight. Like its larger M17x brother, it delivers freakishly strong performance, in this case, by way of an Intel Core i7-920XM processor and Nvidia GeForce GTX 260M graphics. It also offers a choice of 15.6-inch 16:9 screens, our favourite being the 1,920x1,080-pixel widescreen LED model, which lets you pig out on Full HD movies via the laptop's optional Blu-ray drive. What makes the M15x truly stand out, however, is its looks. Its chassis sports an imposing yet minimalist design, while its clever, multi-coloured, multi-zone lighting system allows you to customise the machine any way you like.
Motorola Milestone
The Motorola Milestone is top of our list for smart phones with full Qwerty keyboards, but it doesn't skimp on screen -- its 94mm (3.7-inch) screen is simply stunning. The Milestone's gold trim and funny chin may not be to everyone's taste, but you can't argue with its slim case and the huge selection of good, free apps available in the Android Market. It also sports the latest version of Android, which brings new features including built-in Microsoft Exchange support.
