Apple has reportedly snapped up two new companies, according to 9to5Mac.

The two companies appear to be mapping firm BroadMap and note-taking app Catch, which shut down its app offerings earlier in the year. This was subsequently confirmed by AllThingsD which said that the buyouts actually happened a few months ago.
In 2013 alone, Apple has quietly acquired 15 companies including another mapping company Embark; the firm behind Microsoft's Kinect, PrimeSense; and social analytics site Topsy.
Apple's move to acquire mapping companies makes sense after the widely publicised debacles surrounding the initial iOS 6 release of Apple Maps. Though BroadMap and Catch employees have not mentioned Apple by name, on LinkedIn, BroadMap's CEO said that the company was acquired by a Fortune 5 company "to support their digital mapping efforts."
