Amazon introduces $40 Fire Game Controller

During its video-streaming device unveiling, the company throws in its long-rumored game controller.

Amazon unveiled a long-rumored gaming accessory during the Wednesday launch of its Amazon Fire TV video-streaming device.

The controller, called the Amazon Game Controller, comes with 1,000 Amazon coins and costs $39.99. During the event, Amazon demonstrated several games, including first-person shooter Sev Zero, racing game Asphalt 8, and popular mobile game Minecraft. The average price of a paid game is $1.85, according to Amazon.

It's not a surprise that Amazon is trying to move in on gaming. Gaming apps make up the bulk of revenue for app stores, including Amazon's own. The company recently bought Double Helix, the company behind Killer Instinct, a popular Xbox One free-to-play game. The move sparked rumors of an Amazon gaming console and a leaked image of the gaming controller.
